"The Castle"
WHERE?:
H.H. Holmes set up this hotel in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.
WHAT?:
The Holmes Hotel, known as "The Castle" was built in a great location for tourists to stay. During construction, Holmes fired his workers in order to insure that he was the only one to know the layout of the building. It was full of hidden rooms and a basement built exclusively for the disection of human beings. A national fair was held nearby to the hotel. Holmes would go to the fair and invite the tourists to stay at his hotel. Because he was a very inviting person, he convinced many poeple to stay with him. Because cell phones were not invented, the family of the tourists had no way to reach them. This gave Holmes the perfect victims. There was no way for the families to know where their family members were staying after they realized they were missing.
WHY?:
H.H. Holmes was very curious as a child. Human anatomy intrigued him. This curiousity led him to go into medical school where he worked on cadavers. After killing his victims, Holmes would turn them into classroom skeleton's and sold them to medical schools all around the country.
